Money saving tips: Oatmeal

My daughter LOVES oatmeal she could eat it everyday for breakfast and 2-3 packs of it. (I use the instant flavored oatmeal) I am not big on giving her to much sugars and junk food so I came up with this and it really works. I take 1 instant packs of oatmeal her favorite is apple cinnamon and add some quick cook oats (the large container you usually use for making cookies) and mix it in. So she only gets one packet of flavor and the rest plain oats. She doesn't even know the flavor is different, it cuts down on the sugars and you save money cause your not using a box every couple of days. It can stretch out for a week or so.

  1. I've come across the best idea for oatmeal! Get some whole rolled oats (cheaper), mix w/ an equal amount of yogurt & milk (eg 1/3C oats, 1/3C oatmeal, 1/3C milk), add seasonings and let sit in fridge o/n. In the morning you can warm it up for a few seconds in the microwave. I will often add a bit of honey, some vanilla and cinnamon. If you use flavored yogurt, you will get all sorts of yummy flavors.

Seriously CREAMY and yummy and better for you (rolled oats aren't quick oats, so aren't processed as much and don't lose as many nutrients). This idea came from Kath Eats Real Food blog. Love this blog. Check it out.
